Do’s of Water Damage
- Do stop the water source.
- Do call your insurance company.
- Do remove as much water as possible from hard surfaces, especially wood.
- Do remove as much of the water as practical using mops or wet vacuums.
- Do remove any items you can from the affected area.
- Do remove rugs from affected area.
- Do put aluminum foil or plastic under metal or wood furniture legs.
- Do get the air moving. Use your HVAC system or fans that you can safely plug in.
- Do take pictures of the entire area showing where the water started, where it went, and what it affected.
Don’ts of Water Damage
- Don’t walk through standing standing water until the power has been turned off.
- Don’t turn any appliances or electrical devices on.
- Don’t remove any building or structural material such as drywall or installed carpet unless your insurance company has instructed you to do so.
